Class Descriptions

This is a stimulating, fun and imaginative class that introduces the fundamentals of dance while nurturing a child’s agility and musicality. Students learn classroom procedures – student/teacher relationship; taking turns; participation and co-operation. By using games, props, toys and rhythm instruments, the class offers creative ways to challenge the child both mentally and physically.

 

Ballerina Prince & Princess – (ages 3-5yrs) – Forty-five minute class. This is a motivating and exciting class that introduces young students to the fundamentals of classical ballet. This class continues to aid in the child’s physical coordination and musicality while introducing age appropriate exercises to aid in fine motor development. Students will continue to use props and creative ways to aid in learning proper technique.  Our dance education program begins in this class and introduces students to elements of performance, musicality and anatomy.  

  • Suggested additions to this class:  Jazz Babies, Hippity Hop, Beginning tumbling

 

Broadway Babes – (ages 4-6yrs)  Ballet & Tap -One Hour Class.. The ballet barre and age-appropriate placement and alignment exercises are introduced in this class. Training in primary tap technique becomes a part of this class. Class begins with a more in-depth ballet warm-up and is followed by barre work, center work and beginning tap fundamentals.  The dance education program continues in this class and includes the study of full-length ballets and composers.

  • Suggested additions to this class:  Jazz Babies, Hippity Hop, tumbling,
  • Beginning musical theatre/voice

 

Rising Stars – (ages 6-9)  Ballet & Tap – One Hour fifteen-minute class.
Students continue to learn the basic fundamentals of ballet technique and terminology, while building muscular strength and proper dance posture. Classroom etiquette and discipline are emphasized in a positive, creative, and energetic atmosphere.  Students will expand their ballet vocabulary through barre and center work while building strength and flexibility.  The ballet portion of this class will prepare the students for classical jazz.  The tap portion of class will include stimulating rhythm and classical tap styles. 

  • The ballet portion of this class may be taken without the tap portion.
    Suggested compliments to this class:  Hip Hop 1, tumbling, musical theatre/voice

 

Tumbling–  (Beginning–Advanced Levels) – Forty-five minute class (ages 3 and up). Our tumbling program is designed to benefit our dancers by focusing on the development of strength, flexibility and agility. The syllabus is based on floor gymnastics/tumbling techniques beneficial to dancers and cheerleaders. In the beginning level classes, students will learn basic tumbling skills including rolls, handstands, cartwheels and bridges. As students advance to higher level classes they will concentrate on walkovers, handsprings, aerial skills and advanced tumbling passes.

 

hiphop.jpgHip Hop – (Beginning-Advanced levels) –Ages 6 & Up - A blend of today’s high energy “street style” movement. The style boasts that everyone is capable of taking part and having fun! Past hip hop experience is great, but even beginners will have a blast in this fast paced, high energy dance class which introduces basic hip hop, the latest trends, & exciting break-dancing moves. Dance conditioning will be introduced to strengthen the body for more advanced hip-hip training.Performed to age-appropriate music.

  • Since ballet vocabulary is used in all dance forms, it is highly recommended that all youth division students take a ballet technique class in addition to another dance discipline.
  

  

Musical Theatre/Voice – (Beginning & Intermediate Levels ) Ages 5 & Up - is geared towards the aspiring performer of ages 6 and up. This is a fresh and unique approach to musical theatre galore. This fun and interactive class will include acting, singing and dancing. Many styles of theatre will be covered.

Theatre (Intermediate & Advanced levels) – Ages 7 & Up - This class includes everything the young actor needs to gain a stronger understanding of improvisation, theater, scene study and analysis. Technical theatre training is a part of this class curriculum.

Voice –(Beginning – Advanced Levels) – Ages 8 & Up - students will concentrate on fine tuning their singing skills while working on vocal warm ups, pitch range and identification, note recognition and projection. Songs and the ability to sight read music and lyrics will be taught.

 

Intensive Dance Division –
The Intensive Division offers an exclusive curriculum for serious dance students. Classes are carefully chosen to advance the technique and performance skills needed to progress into a professional career in dance. However, the Intensive Division is not only geared towards students seeking a professional career in dance. All students gain self-discipline, strong work ethic, self-motivation, improved confidence, and an appreciation for high standards of excellence. Intensive Division students receive the opportunity to work with guest teachers and choreographers.

Acceptance into the Intensive Division is by audition or invitation only. Level placement is at the sole discretion of the Artistic Faculty. Students must fulfill all the class requirements.

Ballet Levels 2-5 – The foundation of all artistic dance. Our staff’s meticulous attention to detail makes it invaluable to any serious dancer. Techniques taught :Cecchetti, Vaganova and French.

Pointe – Approval required by the director. The natural progression of serious ballet students. Special care is given to the safety and well-being of each student. Their progress is closely supervised.

Tap –Levels 1-5 – A stimulating intricate style of tap that builds from rhythm and percussion. High paced, rhythm technique is taught along with classical tap techniques

Modern Dance Levels 3-5 –. A style of dance where the body is used to display an emotion, idea or theme, involving the use of fall and recovery and contraction and release. Techniques taught: Horton, Weidman, Limon. A concentration on composition is included in all modern classes.

Jazz Level 2-5 - These classes will cover basic jazz dance technique, terminology and movement quality. Instructors will focus on teaching basic body isolations of the head, shoulders, ribcage, hips, feet and arms and will layer jazz style over the traditional technique of ballet. Students will also learn about the history of jazz dance and movement that is in pace with today but rooted in the traditions of classical jazz.. As the student progresses to the next level, emphasis will be placed on developing rhythmic awareness, individual expression and the use of the body as a rhythmic percussive instrument.
