If there is anything that you don't understand or anything that we can assist you with, please let us know and we will be happy to help.

| Recital 2010 |
| Things You Need to Know |
If you have not yet picked up your recital handbook, please do so ASAP. The handbook is available at both studios or you can view/print a copy on our website in the 'news' section. This handbook is your guide for everything from rehearsals to videos to costumes. We have approximately 250 students particiating in our recitals and we work very hard to make sure that everyone is prepared and informed but this is not possible if you don't read through the handbook and note the items that pertain to you. Please note - There may have been a typo in your handbook -the recital date is June 19 for everyone - Thank You!!
Ticket Sales
Recital tickets are now available. You may pick up your complimentary general admission tickets and purchase more tickets at either studio. Some reserved tickets are still available but will be sold out very soon. We do have a limited number of general admission and reserved seats available. If tickets are sold out prior to the recital, there will be no ticket sales at the door.
Forms and Deadlines
You may get forms for tee-shirts, roses, dvd's, hair-help, volunteers, ticket orders and photo cd's the lobby of both studios or on our website later today. None of these items are required but if you would like to purchase them, they do all have deadlines and cannot be accepted after that date.
Ballet Boutique Fitting
Mrs. Jessica will be holding a fitting at the Albemarle studio on Saturday, May 29 from 10am-2pm for any items that you may need for the recital or summer session. There is also a form available in the lobby or online if you know the size/item you need.
Playbill Ads
The deadline for turning in your playbill ad is May 27 or when the limited amount of space is filled. We have placed examples of the different sizes available in the lobby of both studios. Our playbill will be in the same 'newspaper' style as last year and a limited amount of ad space is available. Businesses or individuals may purchase ads. We do prefer that photos are emailed to us at albemarledance@yahoo.com . Feel free to layout your own ad. Ads make a great keepsake for the children.
News From You
Since our playbill will be in the newspaper style, this is allow us to feature news, events, photos and short stories from you. We would love for you to send us anything that pertains to the studio or dance. Did your child say something funny about their dance class? How has dance changed your child? Do you have pictures of your child's class? Be creative!! This is our 20th anniversary and we would love to hear what you all have to say! Check out last year's examples in the lobby. We will need these before May 27th. Thanks!! |
| Acting and Film Workshop |
| J.D. Lewis Workshop |
It is a rare opportunity to have J.D. Lewis, longtime actor and revered acting coach in Albemarle. J.D. Lewis is one the most well respected and highly recommended coaches and acting teachers in Los Angeles. He has worked with actors who have been nominated or won Academy Awards, Emmys, Tonys, SAG Awards and Golden Globes.
The Actor's Lab is one of the most well respected and recognized names in Hollywood. Established in 1990 by J.D. Lewis, The Actor's Lab has been home to many working actors in Los Angeles. In 2007, J.D. began accepting students, by audition only, in Charlotte.
J.D. will be holding a 5-hour workshop on Saturday, July 24 from 12:00-5pm at AAD. The workshop is limited to 20 students ages 8 and up. The workshop will include how to audition for Commercials,TV, and Film and also the business of acting...From getting a great headshot, putting together a resume, targeting agents and casting directors, creating projects for yourself and networking to actually getting the job!
The cost of the workshop is $150 and is open to anyone. Registration has begun.
I highly recommend this workshop. It is rare for us to get J.D. here; His time is very limited, as he is back and forth to LA weekly. My son has been studying with J.D. for about a year and has learned so much. Registration will stop when the class is full. A $75 deposit is due at time of registrationwith the balance due July 1st.

1 - Mrs. Lowe, our piano instructor in Abemarle, has asked that students and parents remember that piano lesssons are going on upstairs, near the restrooms. Please be respectful when in that area. Keep quiet and close doors quietly so as not to disturb the class.
2 - Coming soon - Mrs. Jessica will be offering personal fitness training sessions at the Albemarle studio. Please let her know if you are interested in signing up or getting more information.
3 - We are happy that the children are making use of the 'kids corner' activities; However, we will only be able to continue offering the activities if student's/siblings clean up after themselves. We do have often have babies in our lobby and some of the small items can pose a choking hazard if left out.
4- City Youth Ballet will be holding auditions for "The Nutcracker" in September. Remember to stay up-to-date, if interested.
Hailey Bates (Miss Stanly County Outstanding Teen) and her Carolina Princess, Mattie Badgett would like to invite you to the Miss Stanly County/Miss Stanly County Outstanding Teen Wardrobe showing to be held Sunday May 23, 2010 at 3:00 at West Stanly High School.
Reception will follow.

We have so many outstanding students and teachers at AAD! I hope you will join me in congratulating the following:
Austin Coats - Accepted through audition, to the Broadway Theatre Project - Austin will attend a three week intensive training session focusing on the aspects of musical theatre.
Brooke Armstrong - Accepted to every college dance program for which she auditioned. She will be attending Virginia Commonwealth University (1 of the top 6 dance schools in the country).
Hannah Kathryn Wall - recently performed in the Kids Cabaret in Charlotte.
Jonas Roush and Mattie Badgett auditioned for the Radio City Christmas Spectular in New York City. They both had a great audition! Jonas made it through the final cut and will find out soon whether he will be cast as the principal or the understudy for the production.
We are thrilled that ten students from AAD have been accepted and will be studying at summer dance intensives held throughout the country.
Brook Rudolph (Locust instructor) received a scholarship to study in Europe at the Acad. of Fine Arts in Wroclaw, Poland and Prague! She was one of only 3 students awarded the scholarship out of over 2000 applicants in the entire UNC system. It was based on her GPA, art portfolio, professional recommendations &... 3 nominations from her art professors. Don't miss Brook's art classes at Alb. & Locust this summer! | |
