NUTCRACKER AUDITIONS 2010
Saturday, Sept 18 - Albemarle Academy of Dance

Nutcracker Performances: Dec 3 & 4 @ 7:30pm, Dec 5 @ 3:00
School Performance: Tuesday, Nov 23 - 9:30, 11:00, 12:30
AUDITION: Saturday September 18
11:00 -12:00: 6-9 years olds with 3 or more years of dance training
12:00-1:30: Ages 10+up with 3 or more years of dance training
1:30-2:00: Ages 6 + up with less than 3 years of dance training
Adults - No need to audition, please complete audition application by Sept 18.
Audition requirements:
No prior dance training is required for audition. We have roles available for dancers and non-dancers. We make every effort to cast everyone who auditions in some aspect of the performance.
Dancers should arrive early and be stretched & ready for the audition. Allow time to complete the audition application, which should be signed by parent & auditionee.
For dancers with prior training, the audition will consist of a short ballet class including barre, center and across the floor followed by variations from the Nutcracker choreography. There is no need to have anything prepared. Dancers should be dressed appropriately. Dancers with pointe training should bring pointe shoes.
Non-dancers should dress comfortably and be prepared to move. This audition will consist of simple movement, introduction and role playing.
We need adults for the performance but there is no need to audition, please complete an audition application by Sept 18.
The cast list and first rehearsal schedule will be posted on our website by Wednesday, September 22 at 11:00pm. Rehearsals will begin Sept. 23.
Performance Requirements:
If cast in “The Nutcracker”, you will be asked to provide the following: shoes, tights, make-up, hair accessories, certain costume pieces. The City Youth Ballet/Uwharrie Youth Arts will provide all major costume pieces.
There will be mandatory meeting scheduled for all cast members and their parents/guardian on Saturday, Sept. 25 @ 4pm
A $40.00 City Youth Ballet costume rental/membership fee will be required from everyone cast.
- Everyone cast is expected to conduct themselves in professional manner at all Nutcracker events/rehearsals. Misconduct will not be tolerated and dismissal from the cast will immediately result.
Those cast must be available for rehearsals & performances. Principals who miss more than one rehearsal will be replaced. Corps members who miss more than two reheasals will not be allowed to perform.
Tentative Rehearsals/Performance Schedule:
Sept 23 - Nov 14:
Principal dancers : rehearsal approximately 2 days per week
Corps performers: rehearsal approximately 1 day per week (weekends)
Nov 16-Nov 22:
Everyone: rehearsals daily
Nov 23- School performances - must be able to miss school
Nov 24 - 26: No rehearsals
Saturday, Nov 27- Thursday, Dec 2:
Everyone rehearsals TBA
December 3 - 5: Performances
Parents will be asked to sign the following:
I understand the commitment that both I and my child are making to the Nutcracker Performances. I will make sure that my child attends all scheduled rehearsals, on time, in proper rehearsal attire with hair up, ready to dance. I will pick my child up after rehearsal, on time, and will volunteer in some aspect of the performance. I understand that if my child is ill he/she should attend and watch rehearsal. If my child has an unexcused absence, I understand that he/she will be replaced by the understudy and no fees will be refunded.
