ADD Policies    Tuition and Fees

Albemarle Academy of Dance Policies Fees
2011-2012 Session
September 12, 2011 – June 16, 2012

Payment of Fees:
Tuition must be paid by one of the following three ways:
   • Monthly-automatic bank account debit (you most sign an auto debit form);
   • Semester payment (5 months)
   • Yearly payment (10 months)
Tuition is neither refundable nor transferable. Monthly tuition will be debited from your bank account on the 1st day of each month from September through June. Monthly payment must be made by pre-authorized automatic monthly payment. A $30 NSF fee will be charged and re-submitted along with the monthly payment. After two NSF returns for monthly drafts, we will no longer accept monthly draft payments from your account. The remainder of the semester payment will be due in order to continue enrollment.

Costume & Recital Fees:
Costume and recital fees for the year-end recital are due upon registration. No costume fees will be refunded after October 1, even if a student withdraws from the school.

Withdrawal and Refunds:
There is a two-month minimum for all lessons. One-month notice from the first of the month is required to discontinue any classes. Withdrawal must be done in person or in writing. Withdrawal must be done at the school office and not with the teacher. Withdrawal must occur within the first 7 days of the previous month in order to discontinue for the following month. To withdraw from classes a parent or adult student must:
   1. Inform school administration in person or in writing, and
   2. Complete and sign a withdrawal form provided by the school office

All automatic bank debiting charges will stop after the one-month notice period.

Parent Observation: It is difficult for students to maintain their focus during class with parents and family in the classroom; however, it is important that you have a chance to observe the progress of your child. We invite all parents and family to join us during parent view weeks. We do have video monitors in our lobby so that you may observe class without interrupting.

Weather Closings:
AAD will always follow the same schedule as Stanly County Schools in the case of inclement weather. If school is cancelled or dismissed early, there is no class held at either studio. If school is delayed, there will be classes held. If you are unsure, please call the studio or check the website ‘news’ section for info.

Performance Opportunities/Recitals:
City Youth Ballet is our pre-professional performing company designed to give our dedicated students experience in rehearsal work, auditioning, performing, and working together in a cast. Our competition dance company, “The Showoffs”, is comprised of dancers ages 6-18. They are involved in travel, classes, and competitions all over the USA. If you are interested in either of these groups, please contact your instructor. We produce two full-length stage shows which showcase all of our students. Our recital will be held in June at the Stanly County Agri-Civic Center. Students are not required to participate in our recitals; however, we feel that performance is a necessary part of dance education. Participants will pay a $65 costume/performance fee upon registration (per class registered in) along with a $25 recital fee. This fee is non-refundable after October 1.

Commitment:
Our Fall/Winter dance session is based on a ten month period. We do ask that you consider this a commitment. Upon registering for a class, you are allotted that space for the duration of the dance session. We do not accept students who do not plan to complete the session. This is unfair to students who may be kept out of a class due to unavailable space.

Dress Code:
Required dancewear and dance shoes must be worn to all classes.  For safety reasons dancers are not permitted to wear jewelry. Hair must be tied back. Please see class below for class leotard colors. Boys should see instructor for dancewear requirements.

Attire: based on ballet class

Beginning Levels - light pink leotard, pink tights, pink ballet slippers

Beginning/Intermediate Levels - Light purple leotard, pink tights, pink ballet slippers

Intermediate Levels - Light blue leotard, pink tights, pink ballet slippers, tan oxford taps

Attendance and Tardiness:
The school reserves the right to have students who come in late to class, sit out during that class period. Repeated tardiness may result in termination of lessons. A minimum attendance level will be required. Excusable absences (i.e. call the office prior to scheduled class time) can be made up within 4 weeks of excused absence, but may not be applied to future tuition. Make-up class appointments must be made with the office prior to attending the make-up class. Students with excessive absences after January will not be allowed to participate in the year-end dance recital.

Drop off and Pick up of your dancer and care of students:
The school is not responsible for providing before or after class care for students. Students are not to be left at the school for excessive time before, after or between classes. Students should arrive not more than fifteen minutes prior to their class time and should be picked up within 15 minutes of class end. We care deeply about our students but our very limited staff cannot be responsible for childcare duties that take them beyond their job descriptions and normal working hours. Should there be repeated tardiness or early drop off (more than 1 occurrence) from the same family, the school will charge the family $20 for every 15 minutes or portion thereof, in order to retain personnel past their regularly scheduled hours.

Ballet Etiquette and Discipline:
In today’s world of instant informality and less than perfect manners, dance class provides an oasis of true courtesy and dignity, a remnant of the royal decorum of the Baroque age. In ballet we create an environment conducive to learning and physically demonstrate the esteem in which we hold our art, our teacher and our fellow students. Considerate, respectful behavior is expected.

*Respect for the teacher and for one another is essential to a successful classroom environment.
*Behavior in the halls and the dressing room should be polite and quiet by both students & parents.

Teaching Method and Corrections:
Proper ballet training happens only when the student feels the correct body position. Communication and education for both dancers and parents is very much a part of our program. Parents are welcome to speak to the teacher regarding any special concerns. As a part of their training, Dancers will receive frequent constructive criticism (called corrections) throughout the year. Corrections are given to assist and teach. The student should understand that a correction is a gift and should be received as such.
